According to that well known Murdoch organ the Sunday Times some Lib Dem members are leaving the party because of Simon Hughes bisexuality. If this is really the case (and I have my doubts) then all I can say is good riddance. If this is really how these people feel then what on earth were they doing as members of the Liberal Democrats in the first place is beyond me. I am proud to be a member of a party that believes that all people should be treated equally and fairly and without discrimination regardless of their sexuality. If these people do not subscribe to the same view then I think they were probably in the wrong party all along.

Well said.
"a party that believes that all people should be treated equally and fairly and without discrimination regardless of their sexuality."
Hence my initial and ongoing interest in the Lib Dems -
I wonder where journalists dream up such information. Sexuality has never been an issue within the party so members leaving because of Simon, I doubt it.
Somebody should really take them to task
Whenever we get one of these controversial incidents, inevitably in our constituency you get one deliverer who drops out or member who refuses to renew. We don't ask people to take a test of ideological soundness before letting them deliver FOCUS or even join the party. I doubt if any proper activist defect over this.
Indeed.
I know someone who joined the party just to spite the local Labour party (who kicked him out for campaigning against them...)
He didn't have, and still doesn't have, a clue about the principles of the party.
There will always be some people like that who join the party and if they leave there's no reason to be concerned, and nothing news worthy about it.
A woman in Kintbury once gave me a cheque for £70 to join the LibDems. As she ripped the cheque off she said: "I'll give you this as long as you have nothing to do with Europe". I smiled and banked the cheque.
