Reading vs Birmingham

Just back from the game where the Championship leaders easily held the Premiership strugglers. I can certainly see why Birmingham are struggling so much in the Premiership this season.

As far as I could tell the Birmingham side was pretty much a first choice team with the exception of the two centre backs where Alex Bruce and Olivier Tebily started due to injuries and suspension.

Meanwhile the Reading side contained 8 players that I would not consider to be first choice starts in a Championship league game.

Reading deservedly went ahead through Shane Long in what was only his third start for the club. This guy along with Kevin Doyle have to be the finds and the bargains of the season! Reading signed them together during the summer for a combined fee of approximately £80,000. Kevin Doyle is one of the leading scorers in the Championship and was recently valued in the paper at £2.5m

Reading had easily the best of the first half and were doing ok in the second half until Steve Bruce carried out a triple substitution. Birmingham had the better of the later exchanges and equalised through David Dunn but Reading hung on to earn a replay

Laugh of the game was the big fat bloke with no shirt and the Reading fans in full flight singing "Have you ever seen your dick?"

If Reading can play like this against Premiership opposition with a reserve team then their chances of making it to the Premiership and staying there look hopeful.
